When you hear someone say that they did something out of the goodness of their heart, you aren’t necessarily going to believe them. You might also think that there is an anterior motive because no one is nice for the sake of being nice, right?

Perhaps we don’t give people enough slack, because in 1959 when Volvo invented the revolutionary three-point seatbelt, they decided to share the patent with every other car manufacturer because saving lives was more important than making a profit.
