#40: LOTR: The Fall of Gandalf

Reading or watching The Lord of the Rings is an emotional roller coaster: there are soaring highs and crushing lows, with moments of great triumph and others of devastating loss. For most of us, the first time we read or saw it, we were shocked and heartbroken by Gandalf’s unexpected fall.

This fan proposes that if we consider Gandalf’s place in the lore of Middle Earth, we might see that while we were shocked, certain members of the Fellowship were absolutely devastated—and terrified to think of what this meant for the great task that lay before them.
