#16: Guardians of the Galaxy: Groot’s Name

For a long time in the world of Marvel movies, it seemed like the fantasy world of Thor and the sci-fi/space opera world of the Guardians of the Galaxy couldn’t exist in the same universe. So it was a fun detail when Thor revealed that he had studied the language of Groot’s people—in fact, it was an elective offered at his school.

Because of his language abilities, Thor may have access to a piece of information about Groot that we don’t have: the real meaning of his name. Of course, naming your son “Tree” when he looks like a tree would be a weird move. But maybe Groot’s parents just weren’t very imaginative.
