Singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes rose to fame in 2013 by sharing his talent on the then-popular app Vine, and although the app has since closed down, his career took off, together with his tattoo collection. While it’s not as big as fellow artists in the field, fans have seemed to take an interest in the singer’s ink collection.

One tattoo that stole our attention is the sparrow tattoo on his hand. Perhaps the reason why it caught out attention was that unlike most of his other tattoos, this one is hard to miss. He never shared the meaning behind the sparrow, but it usually symbolizes traveling – sailors used to get a sparrow tattoo when embarking on long journeys. If you look closely at the left photo, you’ll detect another tiny tattoo inside his finger, of the number 8. He got this tattoo with Hailey Baldwin back when the two were dating, and evidently, that’s his lucky number.
