#25: Routine ER Visit Reveals Teen’s Hidden Heart Block

An ER nurse shared a striking experience involving a mother brought in for what seemed like simple pneumonia. To keep her 13-year-old son occupied during the wait, the nurse decided to engage him with some of the medical equipment, hooking him up to a basic heart monitor for a bit of educational fun.

Astonishingly, the monitor revealed that the boy was in a complete heart block, a serious condition where the heart’s electrical signals are impeded. Quickly printing out the monitor’s strip, the nurse showed it to the doctor on duty. What began as an attempt to alleviate a young boy’s boredom swiftly transformed into an urgent cardiac case.
