#11: Sally Secrets

How many of you still have a Sally Secrets doll lying around somewhere in your attic or basement? Launched in the late 1950s, Sally Secrets was a popular toy known for its unique feature—a tiny “diary” hidden in the doll’s torso that could be written in and locked with a key. This innovative concept was a hit among many young girls.

It was eventually discontinued due to a combination of factors. The small, easily lost diary keys posed practical challenges, and, as is the case with many beloved toys, the doll’s popularity began to wane as new toy trends emerged in the 1960s. Additionally, concerns arose over the diary’s potential for privacy breaches and the risk of children losing the keys, which was very frustrating for them.
