Post-WWII, the Hollywood sign became a sorry sight until 1978, when Hugh Hefner of Playboy fame spearheaded a fundraiser. His efforts led to the demolition and reconstruction of the landmark, removing ‘land’ to present the iconic ‘Hollywood’ we recognize today.
