Louisiana – Hornets, Wasps, and Bees

The infamous alligator might be Louisiana’s most renowned resident, but surprisingly, it’s not the most lethal. In fact, the real villains in this swampy, humid paradise are the stinging critters – bees, wasps, and hornets! One tale we heard involved a brave exterminator who, upon opening a shed, was greeted by a buzzing horde of hornets, completely carpeting the interior. A true testament to the state’s buzzing peril!

While it’s a rare sight to behold, gigantic hornet nests aren’t entirely alien to our state. In comparison to their smaller counterparts, the bees, and wasps, hornets are like the architects of the insect world, constructing colossal nests that would make even the most seasoned builders blush.
