Connecticut – Bobcats
In the wild, untamed expanses of Connecticut, animal encounters are few and far between. The CDC can’t pinpoint the most lethal creature, but deer, black bears, and bobcats are all in the running. Bobcats, in particular, have a wild reputation; in 2023, one audacious feline launched a surprise attack on three unsuspecting camp counselors in their sleep. The plot twist? The bobcat was later diagnosed with rabies.

Earlier in the year, two adrenaline-pumping encounters with black bears had the state buzzing with excitement. Miraculously, despite the heart-stopping drama, both incidents ended without a single fatality – a rare outcome considering the state’s teeming population of these imposing creatures. It’s a testament to the unpredictable dance between humans and nature in this wild, bear-filled corner of the world.
