Montana – Grizzly Bears
Montana, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, houses eight national parks, each a sanctuary for its substantial bear population. However, this picturesque setting has a darker side: an unusually high number of bear attacks. One chilling example is the infamous “Night of the Grizzlies” in 1967. On this horrifying evening, two separate campsites, only miles apart, were simultaneously ambushed by grizzlies, tragically resulting in the demise of two young girls.

The crux of the problem, it seems, was that these grizzly bears had grown accustomed to the convenience of human-provided meals. The latest chapter in Montana’s saga of grizzly encounters unfolded in the crisp autumn air of October 2023. The bears, having lost their natural wariness of humans, had cast themselves in a drama that was far from a teddy bear’s picnic.
