Rhode Island – Black Widow Spiders
The CDC may not keep a tally of Rhode Island’s animal-induced fatalities, but let’s indulge in some educated speculation. Deer, notorious for causing vehicular havoc, likely tops the list. But don’t discount the state’s resident black widow spiders! Although fatalities from their bites are rare, these arachnids hold the title of one of the world’s most venomous spiders. So, while they may not be big in numbers, they sure pack a punch!

Fear not, fellow adventurers, for the bite of the black widow spider is no longer a death sentence! Thanks to the wonders of modern medicine, a potent anti-venom exists to combat their toxic kiss. Furthermore, these eight-legged critters are quite the fashionistas, easily recognizable by their glossy, jet-black bodies and iconic red hourglass markings. And, despite their ominous reputation, they’re typically more shy than aggressive. So, breathe easy, arachnophiles!
