I guess that this story comes with a lesson. If you aren’t going to be happy with the gifts you receive, you should set up a registry. Alternatively, if there was a registry in this place, then the guest in question should have picked an item from that list rather than getting one of her own choosing.

I don’t think it is that bad to ask for a gift receipt, especially if you have no intention of using the gift you received. However, I don’t think that the wedding guest who shared this story was happy about the message she received. If you were the bride, how would you deal with this situation?
