Can’t Afford It

We’ve had some diet-centric overheard conversations on this list, and this snippet is no different. This barista and customer had a funny misunderstanding that ended up revealing the goodness of people. The customer said they couldn’t afford their usual sandwich that day. The barista took it to mean what most of us would probably assume – he was short on cash.

The barista was super nice and brought out his sandwich to him, saying it was on the house. Super generous, but this is LA we’re talking about, and that’s not what the guy meant at all. He meant he couldn’t afford to eat the calories from the sandwich that day! Who would have thought?! That’s definitely not our first thought when someone says they can’t afford something, but maybe we’re not LA enough.
