General Motors announced layoffs of 1,314 employees at two Michigan facilities, as reported in filings with the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. The Orion Assembly will see over 900 employees leave, while approximately 400 will depart from Lansing Grand River Assembly/Stamping.

The layoffs occur just six weeks following a newly minted labor deal between GM and the United Auto Workers union, promising a 25% salary increase over four and a half years, alongside union power to strike against any plant shutdowns.
