Always Read the Book First

I’m a firm believer in the book always being better than the movie, but I have to say I’m thankful people can enjoy some of the stories I love, even if they aren’t readers. Still, I admit I’m not much of a movie watcher, so I’m just as jaded as this little guy in the painting.

With a name like Albert Anker painting “Schreibender Knabe,” it’s entirely possible this realist painter would agree with me if he were alive today. Many of his famous paintings included boys reading books. It’s amazing how realistic the paintings are, as I can’t get my kids to sit still for three minutes, much less the time it takes for entire portraiture!
