Well, we can’t truly attest to how happy Henry the VIII’s wives would be if they hadn’t married him, but I can guarantee they’d have been at least somewhat relieved to keep their heads. Looking at these portraits, it looks like he had a type. Why haven’t we classified him as a serial killer yet?

Honestly, he only beheaded two of them, but tragedy was par for the course if married to him. Their biographies are filled with heartbreak and terror, as well as constant infidelity. He was after a male heir, and of course, it was the women’s fault for not producing one. It’s not as if he was responsible for that… at all.
