It’s a win-win. Some people find spectacular items, from rare antiques to free Persian rugs. We’re taking a stroll down the aisles of the internet’s virtual thrift store to show you the best deals, most amazing antiques, and serendipitous dumpster dives we could find.

#1: Free Ninety-Nine

Have you ever tried to redecorate your home only to find out just how expensive large rugs are? The price tag on some area rugs is truly shocking. That’s what makes this thrifty find so incredible. Our storyteller was driving through her neighborhood when she spotted a rug rolled up at the end of someone’s driveway. She pulled over to check it out and quickly realized the homeowner was coming out to talk to her.

Thankfully, she wasn’t in trouble. The man asked if she wanted to take the rug home for free. He had used the rug as a wall tapestry and didn’t need it anymore because he was redecorating. Our storyteller was flabbergasted by this man’s generosity. A gorgeous rug like this would cost hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars at the store! She graciously accepted his offer. It looks like the rug was a perfect fit for her home!

The Most Controversial Award Show Victories of All Time https://mysthearth.com/the-most-controversial-award-show-victories-of-all-time-qto-is/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 13:35:46 +0000 https://lizanest.com/?p=216955 This article was originally published on Parentinfluence.com

Step into the spotlight of Hollywood’s grandest affair: the Academy Awards. Each year, the elite Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences bestows coveted Oscars upon standout films and their visionary creators. While these winners ideally evoke admiration, some miss the mark. Perhaps they fail to resonate with the cultural pulse or are dismissed as elitist, catering more to industry insiders than the everyday moviegoer. Despite filmmakers’ best efforts, certain Oscar victors falter under scrutiny. Yet, amidst the glitz and glamour, the Oscars remain a beacon, igniting spirited discussions about the ever-evolving tapestry of cinema.

#34: My Fair Lady, 37th Academy Awards, 1965

Categories: Winner of 8 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director
Best Actor nominees who lost at the 37th Academy Awards:
  • Richard Burton, Becket
  • Peter O’Toole, Becket
  • Anthony Quinn, Zorba the Greek
  • Peter Sellers, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

While Rex Harrison undoubtedly possessed talent, his portrayal in My Fair Lady fell short of deserving the Oscar. In the same year, Peter Sellers wowed audiences with his multifaceted roles in Dr. Strangelove, setting a standard of excellence. Moreover, the performances in Becket eclipsed Harrison’s achievement.

Today, Harrison’s character, Henry Higgins, remains a footnote in cinematic history. His win is marred by the patronizing nature of Higgins’ attempts to mold a working-class woman into society’s standards. It’s perplexing how easily lightweight productions like My Fair Lady garner praise, only to fade into obscurity shortly after.

Obvious Facts People Didn’t Realize Were True Until Much Later in Life https://mysthearth.com/obvious-facts-people-didnt-realize-were-true-qto/ Sun, 02 Nov 2025 19:55:22 +0000 https://lizanest.com/?p=218087---6fbaee73-8309-4fa4-8649-8b03d5e35261 This article was originally published on Excellenttown.com

Have you ever had some fact in your head that you are absolutely certain is true, and you don’t realize it’s actually just an assumption that you made at some point and was totally wrong? Have you ever carried that incorrect assumption embarrassingly far into your adulthood? If so, you’re in good company. We all have one or two things that it took us an embarrassingly long time to realize we were completely wrong about. We’ve gathered examples from around the web of incorrect assumptions that people only learned the truth about when they were much older. Check these out and see if you used to believe any of these same wrong “facts”—or if you still do.

#1: Not a Literal Name

I can’t even hold this one against this guy: words are confusing. Whose idea was it to have words with so many different possible meanings? Why can’t language be straightforward, with each word just meaning one thing? I guess we have to blame the Anglo Saxons for English.

Because personally, I think that his assumption sounds like a perfectly reasonable one, especially for a kid. But also, if it were real, I would feel really bad for those patients. As though it wasn’t enough to be dealing with one difficult disease at a time, right?

40 Popular Items That Used to Look Completely Different in the Past https://mysthearth.com/old-versions-of-popular-items-qto/ Sat, 01 Nov 2025 07:10:21 +0000 https://lizanest.com/?p=218677---dd1eeacc-7281-4bd4-b6d4-587f76132305 This article was originally published on constative.com

Every household item that we take for granted was once a new-fangled invention. From electric toasters to the first headphones, early inventions of modern, everyday items are a sight to behold. Come with us as we journey through time and explore early versions of inventions that we still use today. Believe it or not, some of these early versions are completely unrecognizable from our modern-day versions.

#1: A 1920 Electric Toaster

An electric toaster is a kitchen staple these days. Most of us can’t live without this handy invention. We can thank the advent of electricity for this convenient kitchen tool that gives us slices of perfectly toasted bread. Electric toasters were all the rage in the 1920s because they were a new piece of technology. This vintage electric toaster from the Roaring 20s is a sight to behold.

This toaster is much more elaborate than the ones we have today. However, it served the same purpose! The 1920s was the first time the average family could have an electric toaster in their home. This vintage toaster left the bread exposed, but it was toasted with the metal grates you see in the photo. When the toast was done, you simply turned the knobs on the sides, and the toast flopped out, earning this style of toaster “The Flopper” as a nickname.

Photos That Seem Ordinary Until You Take a Closer Look https://mysthearth.com/closer-photos-is/ Fri, 31 Oct 2025 19:10:21 +0000 https://lizanest.com/?p=216149---4a11c047-f508-40b3-8db6-0cf9add878dc This article was originally published on Parentinfluence.com

We see so many photos on the internet these days, we don’t know what to believe anymore. Certain images shared on the internet appear normal at first, but upon closer inspection, you realize that there’s more to the picture than meets the eye. It’s not exactly mind games, but it could simply be a tiny detail that escaped us, and changes the meaning of the photo altogether or something so obvious that you wonder how you missed it the first time around. Some of these images require a second look, while in others, it’s staring us right in the face. We’ve gathered seemingly-normal photos from across the web, that upon closer inspection, appear as something else completely.

She seems pretty calm

Nothing to see here, folks. It’s a picture of a lovely young lady sitting down with a look of bliss plastered on her face. The guys in the background are staring at her as if there’s something weird going on. Perhaps they’re just jealous of her finding a mental safe space.

Or maybe, just maybe, if you look close enough at her head, you’ll find an eight-legged creepy-crawly. Yep, thought so. This woman is at a zoo and volunteered to become a nest for a tarantula. These creatures’ venom is actually a lot milder than that of a bee, but they look a billion times more intimidating.

Oh, Thanksgiving, that special time we take out of our busy schedules to sit around a full table of fall-themed foods and family to say thanks for all the things we are thankful for. Everybody makes sure to come dressed in their best, and with empty tummies just so they can enjoy the much-awaited spread. There are so many different things that need to get done in the lead-up… But what happens when everything goes haywire? It can be so sad to see people feel deflated after working so hard on their specific dish or activity, for it to not have turned out well. Well, I guess there is always next year, right?

Puppies Love Pies

Is there anything more adorable than a cute little puppy? For some reason, we humans are drawn to these dogs in such a way that it can turn us into people we don’t even recognize. But at the end of the day, all of the mishaps and mayhem they cause are worth it because of how cute they are.

Unless, of course, they eat all of the Thanksgiving pies in one sitting… Everyone loves puppies, but we’re not sure that this person’s family would have been ok with this situation. Sure, you can forgive a puppy for doing something like this, but missing out on Thanksgiving pie is a serious sacrifice.
