Communal Stick

Known as the tersorium, this sea sponge attached to a wooden stick was a tool used by ancient Romans to clean themselves after using the toilet. The Romans also had a system for “sterilising” the sponge, which involved dipping it on vinegar before handing to the next person.

I can just imagine the conversations that took place back then. “Hey, Bob, can I borrow your butt sponge stick?” “Sure thing, Frank, just make sure you give it a good rinse first!” It’s enough to make you want to swear off all historical reenactments. But hey, maybe the ancient Romans were onto something. Maybe they knew something we don’t.

Moments When Management Forgot How to Manage https://mysthearth.com/moments-when-management-forgot-how-to-manage-is/ Wed, 19 Mar 2025 02:47:53 +0000 https://patricksfeed.com/?p=184612---868bc97c-c5d0-4e94-b0d1-adf5143e9225 This article was originally published on Natureworldtoday.com

Not everyone can be a good manager, it is a very serious task that requires a lot of patience, diligence, and kindness in order to succeed. Problem-solving is a big part of any managerial position, so thinking outside the box can be a helpful tool when it comes to helping your employees get out of a pickle. If you have ever been employed, you have probably had a manager. Sometimes we get lucky and have very helpful, compassionate, and capable people for managers, and other times they are anything but. Some of us have had the pleasure of having such managers in the workplace, and it can be a challenge, to say the least. Don’t get us wrong, being a manager is a very challenging position to have, but if you aren’t able to handle the pressure, you should think twice about taking such a promotion. If you don’t already have PTSD from your manager-related incidents, then come along for the ride.

Work is Life

For a lot of people, going to work can be a good, enjoyable experience. But there are many workplace-related things that can deter an employee from wanting to be there all the time. Just the fact that people have to get out of their pajamas can be enough to put someone off of wanting to go to work.

Just because you are a manager, doesn’t mean you don’t want to stay in your pajamas as well. Sure, there is an extra element of responsibility that you have over your employees that they don’t necessarily possess, but the demands on this poster are kind of intense. Why would anyone prefer to be at work and not on a holiday? Or come in early if they didn’t have to? This manager maybe needs a reality check.

#1: The Last Frontier

Alaska is known as a cold, desolate, and inhospitable place. There is evidence that people have inhabited the area since 10,000 BCE. However, it stands as the least populated state in the US today. Although beautiful, many modern-day Americans haven’t moved there due to the harsh cold and intense weather.

According to the US Census, about 733,276 people are estimated to live in the largest state in the country. To help you visualize just how sparsely populated Alaska is, think of New York City. The population of Alaska is equivalent to about 16 people living in Manhattan. That’s pretty wild to think about.

Curious Animal Hybrids We Didn’t Know Existed https://mysthearth.com/curious-animal-hybrids-we-didnt-know-existed-is/ Wed, 19 Feb 2025 21:35:55 +0000 https://patricksfeed.com/?p=184625---c9eee178-0cbe-4643-be44-a98426d2f7ac This article was originally published on Natureworldtoday.com

From the occasional unions of species driven by environmental changes, such as the Pizzly Bear, to the deliberate melding of genes in lab settings, such as the Liliger, animal hybrids represent a captivating intersection of biology and genetics. Today, we delve into the fascinating realm of natural and scientifically-engineered animal hybrids, exploring the remarkable diversity of these unique creatures, the intricacies of their genetic makeup, and the implications they hold for our understanding of evolution, adaptation, and the conservation of biodiversity. Through these captivating examples, we embark on a journey to unlock the secrets of the hybrid world, shedding light on the surprising outcomes that arise when species intermingle and genetics intertwine.

Hinny (Horse + Donkey)

A Hinny is a unique hybrid animal that results from breeding a male horse (stallion) with a female donkey (Jenny). This equine crossbreed combines some characteristics of both parent species. Hinny offspring typically inherit the size and body shape of their horse fathers, along with some donkey-like features such as long ears and a short, coarse mane.

Hinnies are known for their sure-footedness and endurance, making them well-suited for certain types of work, like carrying loads in mountainous terrain. While they share similarities with mules, which are the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse, hinnies are rarer due to the difficulty of successfully mating a male horse with a female donkey, as their genetics make reproduction less likely compared to mules.

One of the highlights of traveling is staying in a new place, that’s supposedly more comfortable and exciting than your house. It can be fun to live a little differently than what you’re used to, as long as your hotel is nice and accommodating. If your hotel or Airbnb is not what you expected, it can throw off your entire vacation. Sometimes you’ll find a quirk about your place that’s odd but really, really funny. Other times, you’ll find something that is very upsetting. Either way, staying in a strange place is always an adventure – just ask the people who shared these images!

#1: Bait and Switch

Staying in a place with a pool is often very exciting and is a must if you’re traveling with kids. For most people, swimming is a rare opportunity, and nothing says “vacation” like a pool! It can be a fun way to help pass the time when you’re away from home; it can also be a fantastic way to unwind after a busy day.

So when this person booked a room at a place with a pool area, they likely expected to go for a dip. We can’t help but think that the establishment was proud of itself for such clever advertising. Let’s just hope they didn’t have to feel the wrath of five-year-olds denied a swim. Or actually, let’s hope they did get an earful for this deceiving advertising.

#1: Massive Cloud of Ash

This iconic photo of an ash cloud was taken in 1980 when Mt. Saint Helen erupted in Washington state. Considered the single most disastrous eruption of a volcano within the United States, over 57 people were killed, as the eruption and consequent earthquake caused a landslide into the neighboring town.

While megalophobia might sound funny to most people, I doubt there’s a single person on earth who wouldn’t be running in the opposite direction of this massive cloud of ash. It caused over a billion dollars in property damage and left ash in eleven states across the U.S. and parts of Canada, as well.

 When is Free Balloon Day?

First of all, I need to know when Free Balloon Day is; how come I have never heard of it? Well, these perpetrators certainly have! Whilst I’m sure stealing a balloon is a very minor crime,  nothing says experience more than staying in a holding cell, even if it was just for a few seconds.

I’m sure our drunken balloon thieves bragged about this experience during reunions – and perhaps exaggerated it a bit. After all, who doesn’t love a good drunken adventure story? At least they didn’t go too wild and steal something more valuable. I’m sure the ending wouldn’t be as funny.
