A lot of people get homesick when they are far away from home for a while. Sometimes, that homesickness can convince us to change our plans so that we can return home sooner. If we’ve learned anything, it is that these seemingly small changes, like choosing an earlier flight, can impact a family for generations.

This person’s mom was studying abroad in England in the 1980s when she was hit with a strong wave of homesickness. Even though she was due to fly home in a few days, she decided to spontaneously buy another ticket so that she could return home earlier. Good thing she did – everyone on her original flight died.
