#6: A Gross Misunderstanding
According to the lovely internet world of information, Gross is a surname of Prussian, German, and Yiddish origin that means big, tall, or great. It’s not a totally uncommon name, even in the states. Sadly, in America, it just means… gross. I can see why Nancy was wholly confused. Dating Mr. Gross would be quite the adjustment.

He has to be used to people’s confusion, though. If my last name were Gross, I’d be giving backstory the second anyone asked me my name or gave it a side-eye on paperwork. Granted, he might not have ever given it thought. Not everyone cares where their last name came from.
