#40: Southern Accents Are Hard, Too

I giggle over Boston accents because I grew up with southern ones. Living in Georgia (pronounced Jawja), I’d have known precisely what she was trying to say. Even without that prior knowledge, the context clues here are pretty heavy. It starts with a w, and it’s in the backyard. It’s a straightforward extrapolation, Gina.

Hopefully, Gina brushed up on her Southern a bit before moving to Tennessee because it’s like an entire language of its own with lots of nuances. I’ve recently learned that Southerners are also more likely to smile, nod, and make eye contact and small talk with strangers, which doesn’t happen up North or out West.
