#13: Li Shang – Mulan

Li Shang, a main character from Disney’s Mulan, is known for his strong, disciplined demeanor and his role as the leader of the Chinese army. With a tall and sturdy physique, he’s often seen wearing traditional military attire. Li Shang was initially conceived as two separate characters: one to be Mulan’s love interest and another as her commanding officer.

However, this was later combined into the character we know today to create a more dynamic and engaging story. Donny Osmond provided the singing voice for Li Shang in the original 1998 animated film, adding his rich vocals to the character’s appeal. Li Shang’s journey from a stern military leader to a character who appreciates Mulan’s strength and courage makes him a beloved and complex figure in Disney’s animated canon.
