#35: Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal in Crazy Heart

It’s hard to believe that the critically acclaimed movie Crazy Heart came out over ten years ago, but here we are. Jeff Bridges won his very first Oscar for playing Bad Blake. His co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress that year. Their on-screen performances were so well done that most of us ignore the fact that there’s a huge age difference. 

The two superb actors are 28 years apart, but that didn’t stop casting directors from hiring the two for their respective roles. The age difference is never addressed in the movie, so their chemistry is just taken for granted. It’s a strange assumption to make. But hey, it can happen in real life between consenting adults, so why not on-screen?
