#32: Michael Keaton and Andrea Riseborough in Birdman

Birdman marked Michael Keaton’s big, critically-acclaimed comeback. It was weird, avant-garde, and delightfully off-kilter. All that weirdness made the age gap between Michael Keaton and his on-screen girlfriend, played by Andrea Riseborough, seem pretty run-of-the-mill. However, there’s a whopping 30 years between the two actors.

Andrea was closer in age to Emma Stone, who was 24 at the time and played Michael Keaton’s daughter. However, the age gap was an intentional part of the movie. Casting directors most likely hired Andrea for the role of Laura because she was so much younger than Birdman (aka Michael Keaton).
