#25: Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler in The Phantom of the Opera

The age difference between Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler in The Phantom of the Opera is weird and kind of disturbing, especially considering that the movie isn’t from that long ago. Gerard was already in his early-to-mid 30s, while Emmy was still literally a teenager at 17. In addition, her other co-star, Patrick Wilson, was 30 while filming the movie. 

Although everything was professional and above board on set, it’s still a huge on-screen age discrepancy that can make some people raise their eyebrows today. However, The Phantom of the Opera was Emmy Rossum’s breakout role. We can’t imagine that she would have wanted to turn down a huge starring role just because of a real-life age difference with her professional co-star.
