#15: Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie in Alexander

The early 2000s were a wild time. Casting directors really cast Angelina Jolie and Colin Farrell as mother and son, and audiences didn’t bat an eye. Angelina is only one year older than Colin, so the fact that she played his mother in Alexander was truly wild. How did we buy that? Or did we?

Sometimes it seems like Hollywood casts roles based on star power rather than logic. Could they have cast an older actress to play Colin Farrell’s mom? Sure! But would she have had the same sex appeal as Angelina Jolie? Probably not! Let’s all just admit that most couples who went to see Alexander in theaters went because they thought at least one of the leading stars was hot stuff.
