#13: Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson in Lost in Translation
Lost in Translation was a huge indie hit when it came out in 2003. Even though Bill Murray was hesitant to star in the film, it has become one of his most memorable roles. He plays fading movie star Bob Harris, while Scarlett Johansson plays recent college grad and ex-pat Charlotte. The age difference is, obviously, quite substantial.

Although the age difference between the characters is done on purpose, the real-life age difference between Bill and Scarlett is still shocking. Bill was in his 50s, while an up-and-coming Scarlett was only 18. Although nothing physical happens between their characters in the movie, a “romantic melancholy” is implied. It’s kind of weird, and it will be interesting to see how this movie ages (pun intended).
