#40: The Disappearance of Lars Mittank

What do you do when someone you love is living a completely normal life one day but then is completely paranoid the next? The case of Lars Mittank has puzzled authorities and private investigators for years, and they are still searching for answers. 28-year-old German man Lars Mittank went on a holiday in Bulgaria with some friends in 2014. But after getting into a small brawl with some men at a bar after watching a football game, local doctors advised that he take a day to rest instead of flying out with his friends due to a burst eardrum. In accordance with the doctor’s advice, Mittank stayed back and checked into a different hotel.

However, a day after his friends left, he began acting bizarrely. He called his mom, saying men were after him and trying to kill him. Having never experienced her son this way, his mother began to worry. His odd behavior was caught on CCTV footage throughout his hotel and the airport right before his disappearance. Lars had never before displayed such behavior, nor did he have any history of mental illness. The last known footage of him is on July 8th, 2014, at Varna airport as he is seen running away from something out of the airport and running into a field near the highway. Over the years, there have been many “Sightings” throughout Europe, but the case remains unresolved.
