21. The Wind Would Like to Have a Word

It really makes you wonder, how your hair ends up such a disaster. It’s the wind, mostly, and the snow and the sleet as it gets wet, is whipped around, and dries like that. Can’t my hair just flow dramatically in the wind the way I want it to? There’s the dream: walking out into the winter wonderland, hair cascading down like a storybook princess.

Then there’s the reality: stepping outside and instantly becoming the unwilling participant in a hair-tangling contest. You’ve got strands in your lip gloss, an unintentional static halo, and let’s not even talk about the dreaded scarf-snarl. It’s a full-on mane rebellion. Maybe, just maybe, one day we’ll master the art of the winter hair flip—until then, it’s beanies to the rescue!
