Something Fishy’s Going On

Poor salmon. They’re really impressive animals, if you think about it—the way they can unerringly find their way back to the place where they were spawned; their absolutely incredible jumping abilities. And they’re quite pretty, in their way.

But is anyone valuing a salmon for its wayfinding abilities or its mad hops, or its appearance? Is anyone keeping a salmon in a decorative fish tank or teaching it to do cool tricks? No, we are not. We are eating it, and that’s the only thing we want to do with salmon. We only ever see them as food.
